About GSECL

The Company was promoted by erstwhile Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB) as it's wholly owned subsidiary in the context of liberalization and as a part of efforts towards restructuring of the Power Sector.

GSECL has initiated its activities in the field of Generation of Power. The Government of Gujarat (GoG) has also given to the GSECL the status of Independent Power Producer (IPP) with approval to undertake new power projects.. The Company commenced it's commercial operation in the year 1998. However, the operations of GSECL were limited to Power Stations units Gandhinagar #5, Wanakbori #7, Utran GBPS & Dhuvaran CCPP till the complete unbundling of erstwhile GEB was undertaken, i.e. up to 31st March 2005.

What's New

  • Wanakbori Super Critical Unit-8 has successfully achieved 800MW load(full load) on 14-Jun-2019. This is first super critical thermal unit of GSECL.

  • 75MW Solar Power Project is successfully commissioned on 05-Feb-2019(Before due date of 26-Mar-2019)

  • GSECL received LoA from GUVNL for establishing 75MW grid connected Photo Voltaic Power Project Phase-II at Dhuvaran

  • GSECL received LoA from GUVNL for establishing 100MW grid connected Solar Photo Voltaic Power Project at Ultra Mega Solar Park at Raghanesda

  • In Pursuant To The Approval Of Govt Of Gujarat Dated 27.09.2018, The 2 X 250 MW Lignite Based Power Station Of Bhavnagar Energy Company Limited (BECL) Units Has Been Merged With Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL) W E F 01.04.2018. The Power Station Is Titled As Bhavnagar Lignite Thermal Power Station (BLTPS)

  • For meeting new environmental norms, the GSECL has completed ESP Refurbishment of Ukai TPS Unit no 3 to 5 (total 610 MW capacity) & Wanakbori TPS Unit no 1 to 3 (total 630 MW capacity) has been completed.

  • GSECL has successfully completed Energy Efficiency Renovation & Modernisation (Turbine retrofitting & boiler back pass modification) of its 200/210 MW LMZ unit at Ukai TPS & Wanakbori TPS respectively during the year 2017-18. Post R & M, substantial improvement in Efficiency of these units has been observed.

  • The Gandhinagar TPS of GSECL is declared first winner at National level as “Clean generator of the year” (in the category of old power plants below 500 MW) by Mission Energy Foundation, New Delhi

  • GSECL is awarded National Level Runners Up Award during 6th Fly Ash Utilisation Conference – Expo - Awards organized by M/s Mission Energy Foundation, New Delhi (Supported by (i) Ministry of Environment & Forests and Climate Change, (ii) Ministry of Power, Coal & Renewable Energy & (iii) Ministry of Science & Technology, New Delhi) on 28.02.2017 for Maximum Fly Ash Utilisation –In the category of - under 500 MW Power Plants.

  • GSECL Power Stations (as a whole) have consistently achieved Plant Availability Factor (PAF) of more than 75 % for last 11 years (from 2007-08 to 2017-18).

  • GSECL has received two Parivartan Sustainability Leadership Awards 2013 as (a) Corporate Sustainability Stewardship Award & (b) Grand Jury Special Recognition Award for the exemplary initiatives for promoting energy infrastructure in the state of Gujarat

  • Company has achieved ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004 & OHSAS 18001:2007 certification for all the Thermal Power stations

  • 3 Units of 210MW have achieved Plant Availability Load Factor more than 95%

  • 13 Units of 210MW have achieved Plant Availability Facotr of 95.79%.
